The home that now houses The Inn Joy was built in 1905 by Albert and Gertrude Sausser. There have been, prior to myself, four ladies of the house. Gertrude being the first. She was followed by a widow named Lizzie Filbert. The property then passed onto Harry and Florence Anthony. The Anthony’s then sold the property to their daughter and son-in-law Mary and Robert Harner. The Harner’s son Philip also owned the property prior to our acquiring it in 2017. Given that guest rooms should be called something other that 1, 2, 3 and 4 as we had been; we finally settled on honoring these ladies and named the rooms after them. Since Gertrude and her husband built the house, we decided to name the largest room (the pink one) after her. The adjoining room (the yellow one if you will) will be called The Lizzie Room. The brightest of our rooms, it has such wonderful daylight throughout the day, will be named after Florence. This leaves us with Mary, her name will grace our last room. This bedroom has a private balcony and is decorated with grays and purples. Hopefully these ladies would approve of what we have done with the house. We did not change anything structurally and it very likely remains something akin to what what it would have been during their tenure in the house.
This enchanting guest room has a wonderfully comfortable king sized bed and the turret space has a lovely sitting area perfect for reading a novel. This room along with the Lizzie also make up our Family Suite option as they are adjoining rooms but with the locks to allow them to be private guest rooms as well.
